Every day for the next 30 days, we challenge our community toward caring-caring for ourselves, our family, our friends, our neighbors, and the place we live. We will issue a daily challenge--an idea or reminder for kindness. Each day, participants will complete a caring act and share it on social media to spread the joy of caring through December 13.
Your goal: intentionally reach out to show caring every day for the next 30 days. We will give you suggestions that range from self-care to community care. Our ideas will cost little to nothing, but we hope to inspire you to reach out (from a social distance) to #reUnite with people in unique ways. Isolation has taken its toll on our relationships and happiness, but together we can combat the current challenges.
We want to make people smile. We want to feel connected and part of something, even as some of our most cherished traditions are put on hold at this time. So when you complete a challenge, don't keep it to yourself! Share it on social media. Be sure to tag us and use the #30Dok so we can see your fantastic ideas. Email us your stories and pictures so that we can help spread the love.
What is the prize? Community is the ultimate prize. This challenge is about fun and togetherness. We're not going to guarantee a prize, but you might find yourself on the receiving end of some kindness. There are no scores to keep or games to win. This challenge is for you---the journey is the destination.

Day 14:
Our loving community is already doing this in big and small ways. Shout out to India Metcalf for her annual Thanksgiving meal, to our
MonticelloUnited MethodistChurch for their community drive-through, to
Idaville First Church Of God for the meals they have provided this week, and to Cazadores Downtown for the community meal they are offering today. There is so much kindness in our community today; let's make sure nobody eats alone. (Though we can practice contactless delivery and social distancing.)

Day Twelve:
Self-care is so important, especially at this time of year, during a global event. Sharing this post could help a person on the other end of the screen who is stuck in constant scrolling, and help redirect much-needed energy inward. Please, let us all care for one another. #30DoK
There are many options and techniques available for mindful breathing to bring about a sense of calm. One technique, called alternate-nostril breathing, helps with mental and physical clarity and can be helpful in fighting brain fatigue. Learn more here:

Day Nine:
Sneak attack: Leave a small gift on a friend's porch. Be sure to send a text or call afterward so they can discover the surprise.

Day Eight:
It's Friday! While we can't necessarily cuddle up with our favorite companions for a fun friends' movie night, we can dream! Cheer up our socials by letting us know about your movie night line-up. You bring the imagination, and let's laugh together.
For inspiration, check out the Christmas films being released on Hallmark this season:

Or, check out this list of the best Christmas movies of all time:

NOTE: For the challenge, your movie night doesn't have to be holiday-themed.

Day Seven:
Take a quick walk down memory lane this morning to recognize a friend in a moment of greatness. Look through older posts to find something from a year ago and make a positive comment. If you need ideas, find quotes and inspiration on this page:

It's never too late to start the challenge, and today's a great day to begin your "30 Days of Kindness" with someone you hold dear. Throwback to a merry moment from the past, and enjoy reminiscing for a moment today. It will do good for your heart and your friend's happiness today.

Day Six:
Take a small baked treat to someone special: a cookie, donut, muffin, or a delicious piece of fresh fruit will be a sweet reminder of your friendship.
The 30 Days of Kindness Challenge is a way for us to extend friendship to our neighbors, share our stories of connection, and keep warmth in our hearts as the temperature cools. As you shop for your shareable snack, please remember that today is Shop Local Black Wednesday! #30DoK
If you have a bit more time and would like to make it more personal, try the recipes for simple cookies, here:

Day Five:
Our challenge: engage in kindness, every day, for 30 days. Make the world a little closer this season. Try an old school greeting today. Send a paper greeting card to someone you care about, just to say hello. If you don't have a greeting card on hand, try a letter written in beautiful script. Share your results by tagging us on social media, using the hashtag #30DoK, or submitting your kindness via email.
Make your letter even more personal and engaging. Learn more about letter writing etiquette and techniques here: https://www.simplystamps.com/blog/2019/05/31/the-art-and-etiquette-of-letter-writing/

Day Four:
Happy Monday! For this kindness classic, buy a stranger a coffee at your drive through this morning. As an alternative, think about taking a warm morning drink to a coworker.

Day Three:
Phone a friend! Make a phone call to a person who you haven’t spoken to in awhile. Especially if this person is particularly isolated due to health or age, hearing your voice will be an amazing gift. This is a gift you give to yourself-you’ll also enjoy the conversation. Remember to share your experience on social media with the hashtag #30DoK
Learn more about the benefits of kindness, and even get access to a "Kindness Toolkit" with NPR here: https://www.npr.org/2020/11/14/934546242/the-life-kit-guide-to-being-kind-to-others-and-to-yourself?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_term=nprnews&fbclid=IwAR0VE-qTh5LsVv7pjOjpAwf8UC9GfxcrQjXxKqSQLKUqqgfOremxCeAmAGk
To make it extra special, schedule the phone call, make yourself a warm, cozy beverage, and enjoy a distanced "coffee date" for self-care.

Day Two:
As you go about your weekend, give a genuine compliment to people you meet. Tell someone they have a nice smile or friendly laugh. A little acknowledgement can brighten someone's entire day!
Learn more about non-physical compliments and get a list of ideas here: https://thriveglobal.com/stories/50-compliments-that-have-nothing-to-do-with-appearance/
While you're at it, give yourself a good, long look in the mirror before you leave the house and tell yourself something inspiring that you've done in the past week.
